Rachael Hamilton MSP has highlighted the positive progress being made by staff and pupils at Hawick High School after inspectors found that areas of the school were performing poorly.
After January 2020’s inspection labelled the school as ‘weak’ in attainment and achievement, the most recent inspection found that a great deal of progress has been made on this front. These improvements have been met with delight from parents and teachers.
Staff have been implementing a plan to support pupils and help raise attainment whilst improving the curriculum, however inspectors have acknowledged that the school will require more time to implement their plans for improvement.
Ms Hamilton has commended the school for its efforts in improving outcomes for its pupils during the pandemic and hopes to see improvements continue.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“I am really pleased to see the progress made by Hawick High School over the last 2 years. It is a real testament to the hard work of staff, pupils and parents.
“It is especially impressive that these improvements in attainment and achievement have been made despite the influence of the pandemic.
“We know the SNP’s record on education has been abysmal. However, despite the national trend of faltering attainment and achievement in schools that has come as a result of the SNP’s failures, Hawick High School has been able to buck the trend and make these exceptional improvements.
“I have been following progress on this closely, and it is clear that the strategy being implemented by staff and teachers at Hawick High School is working. I am really looking forward to seeing even more improvements in the coming years as the School bounces back from the pandemic.
