Rachael Hamilton MSP has written to the Scottish Government calling for more funding for Scottish Borders Council to carry out maintenance jobs which have been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She has also asked that restrictions be lifted so councils can carry out more repairs to roads etc. and more funding be made available to reopen public toilets as tourism restarts.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, grass cutting and other routine maintenance work has not been carried out.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“We need to see the Scottish Government offer more funding to local authorities to deal with the impact of Covid-19.
“Town centre maintenance and repair jobs have been postponed and this is causing a backlog.
“We need the guidance to change to allow more maintenance teams to carry out their jobs, such as routine grass verge cutting.
“With tourism restarting, the Government must help councils provide more public toilet facilities.
“I have written to the Scottish Government to ask that they take all these points into consideration and offer more funding that councils deserve”.
