I was delighted to visit the team at Johnstons of Elgin’s knitwear factory in Hawick after the company recently announced a £1.8m expansion in Hawick.
The expansion, pending approval from Scottish Borders Council, will help boost the local economy with over 50 new jobs set to be created.
I sat down with Keith Mundell, the manager of the knitwear factory, to discuss how they are prioritising the next generation of staff by investing in the development of young people in Hawick.
Hawick’s role in the knitwear industry stretches back through many generations, with many continuing their family tradition of working in the industry.
Thank you to the team for showing me around the factory and speaking to me about the heritage of the textile industry in Hawick.
