Rachael Hamilton MSP has given a speech in Holyrood on the 70th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Borders MSP spoke fondly of Her Majesty the Queen’s immense contribution Great Britain and the Commonwealth over her reign spanning 7 decades.
She took the opportunity to recognise her love of the countryside, as well as her importance as role model for women and girls.
The Queen is the only British Monarch to reach the 70 year milestone surpassing Queen Victoria’s 63 years and 216 days and joining a small handful of kings and queens around the world.
Mrs Hamilton finished her speech by wishing ‘good health’ to the Queen and thanked her for her ‘selfless duty throughout her fantastic 70 years of reign’.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Mrs Hamilton has encouraged Borderers to take part in the Queen’s Canopy Project.
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“It was an honour to speak in my Conservative colleague, Stephen Kerr’s debate, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.
“In this Platinum Jubilee year, it is fitting we look back and mark the immense contribution Her Majesty the Queen has given to our nation.
“Her unwavering and selfless duty is unparalleled, and through the darkest days of war and the recent Covid-19 pandemic, she has been a reassuring and comforting figure.
“I want to thank her for her wonderful service and wish her a very happy Platinum Jubilee year”.
