Rachael Hamilton MSP recently visited the Morrisons store in Hawick to hear more about British produce and Community Champions.
Mrs Hamilton also used the visit as an opportunity to highlight the importance of buying local Scottish and British produce.
Local produce stocked by the supermarket reduces food miles and helps to tackle climate change.
The Borders MSP also met with local Community Champions to hear more about the work the supermarket carries out to help those in need in Hawick. Morrisons’ Community Champions annually donate over £500,000 worth of products and raise £5 million in stores for local causes.
The supermarket has also been instrumental in conducting Doorstep Deliveries to residents in Hawick and the surrounding area during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mrs Hamilton hopes that supermarkets continue to do more to promote the varied range of high quality food and drink that the Borders produces.
Rachael Hamilton said:
“It was a pleasure to visit the Morrisons store in Hawick and see the fantastic work they are carrying out in the community.
“Without a doubt, their work has been tremendous during the pandemic and I want to thank them for continuing to help all residents of Hawick.
“Their Community Champions work hard to engage with local charities and this has made a large contribution to life in Hawick.
“We must remember to buy British produce when we do our weekly shop; this was very evident at Morrisons with the wide array of products that directly benefit local farmers”.
Community Champion, Rachel Lewis said:
"It was lovely to meet with Rachael and tell her all about the work that Susan Robson and myself have been doing during the pandemic, and to share with her the exciting new promotion that Morrisons are launching very soon. It's great to talk with other people who are just as passionate about community as we are."
