SNP agency Visit Scotland announced on Wednesday they would close all 25 visitor information centres across Scotland, including the Jedburgh location.
This is a bitter blow for local businesses and towns that are working hard to attract more tourists.
It's unacceptable for the SNP Government to stand by and let the local economy suffer when tourism is such a vital sector in the Borders. I am particularly frustrated that this snap decision has been made with almost no local consultation.
Scottish Borders MP, John Lamont, said: "This is bad news for Jedburgh and deeply unhelpful to efforts to increase tourism, especially repeat visitors, to the Borders.
"The SNP must explain to local businesses what impact this will have on the experience that visitors receive. Humza Yousaf's government should really step in to prevent this closure going ahead."
