SNP independence papers labelled wrong priority at the worst possible time
After the publication of the latest paper pushing for another independence referendum, Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton has hit out at the SNP Government for prioritising independence over families in the Borders who are struggling with the cost of living.
Monday 17th October saw the First Minister launch the most recent instalment of a series of papers prepared by the SNP Government to set out the case for independence.
The papers have come under heavy criticism from opposition parties and other organisations who feel the Scottish Government should be focussed on tackling the cost of living crisis in Scotland.
Ms Hamilton said the latest paper shows that the SNP are completely out of touch with the public in Scotland, and labelled it as the ‘wrong priority at the worst possible time’.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“As the SNP continue to pour millions of pounds of taxpayer’s cash in to writing unevidenced papers on their independence pipe-dream, people in the Borders are writing to me asking what more the Government here can do to help them with the cost of living.
“Every elected representative in Scotland will be receiving similar correspondence. The priorities of people in this country are clear.
“Yet this SNP Government is happy to ignore this and push on with their plans for another divisive referendum. This is the wrong priority at the worst possible time.
“NHS waiting times are soaring, the global cost of living crisis is piling pressure on struggling families, and public transport has ground to a halt because of industrial action. The SNP should think long and hard about their choice to ignore these enormous issues in favour of pursuing their own, selfish constitutional agenda.”
