Rachael Hamilton MSP visited Murray House, the region’s first private-sector specialist residential unit for people with severe dementia, due to be completed by the end of this year.
Chair of Queen's House trustees, Ray Jones and fellow trustee George Young showed Ms Hamilton around the new purpose built facility which is currently nearing completion.
The new building will have 18 bedrooms, its own kitchen and community spaces, and has been designed to meet the needs of those with various degrees of dementia.
This will be an addition to the already existing 32 bedrooms that Queen's House has for those with dementia.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“Murray House is a fantastic, light and airy building which will provide care for people with dementia in the Borders.
“Dementia affects around one in six people over 80 in Scotland, and new facilities such as these are vitally important.
“I must congratulate the hard work of the Board of Trustees and staff for reaching the final stage, with construction nearing completion, they should be proud of what has been achieved.
“The Scottish Government must realise that funding for the creation of these centres is crucial, with an ageing population, more and more people will need assistance and require the services of places such as Murray House”.
