Rachael Hamilton MSP had the pleasure of visiting some of Eyemouth’s art installations with David Windram as part of the Eyemouth Art Trail.
The Eyemouth Art Trail, which is set to display the best of Eyemouth’s artistic, architectural and aesthetic historical points of interest, in a bid to promote the town as a not only a seaside destination, but a cultural and artistic one too. David Windram runs a Landscape Design and Construction company ‘Spacial Integrity Landscapes’ and heads the committee of proactive and dedicated volunteers. A fantastic group of artists from a variety of mediums striving to make this free public access art trail a success and highlight the beauty of this amazing part of the world. Indeed the ‘Jewel of the Scottish Borders Riviera’ can really live up to its reputation and grow from strength to strength.
The art trail took in some of the famous buildings, statues and art installations, such as the Widows and Bairns installation commemorating those lost in the 1881 fishing disaster and architectural curiosities, such as the intricate scallop shell wall on Harbour Road.
Ms Hamilton heard about how the Eyemouth Art Trail is planning to grow and become a real asset to the local community with the input of local artists. The intention is to make this a permanent local tourist attraction with great family appeal, bringing visitors and business to the area.
The Eyemouth Art Trail plan several developments over the coming years, including upgraded signage, new exhibitions, Eyemouth Art Festival and new permanent installations.
Ms Hamilton plans to write a letter of support in order to assist the art trail to apply for grants and funding to upgrade signage, install information boards and promote the trail.
