Borders politicians Rachael Hamilton MSP and John Lamont MP have welcomed the return of Berwickshire County Show, which took place on Saturday 6th August.
Like many of the summer shows taking place across the country, Berwickshire Show took place this year after a two-year hiatus as a result of the Covid Pandemic.
Revellers were thrilled to be able to return to the show this year, as Berwickshire’s Agricultural Association put on a characteristically seamless event in the grounds of Duns Castle Estate.
Ms Hamilton and Mr Lamont – pictured with some of the show's participants - congratulated all of the entrants in the show, and thanked the Agricultural Association for putting together a fantastic event.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“As with all of this summer’s shows, there was a real buzz around the event at Duns Castle. People are so pleased to be able to get out and about, meeting friends and family and enjoying the summer sunshine.
“Berwickshire’s Agricultural Association should be very proud of the event they put on. Congratulations to them and to all the show’s winners.
“The whole day was a fantastic showcase of our agricultural heritage and traditions.
“What was even more inspiring was the number of young people getting involved, whether they were showing animals, tackling the show jumping course, or even enjoying the spectacle with their families and friends, and taking an interest in what the show had to offer.
“Meeting and talking to so many Borderers at the show always encourages me to keep working hard for the area, and ensure our agricultural sector has a strong voice in Parliament.”
John Lamont MP said:
“There was a great sense of relief to see the Berwickshire County Show return after what feels like a long absence.
“It was a real pleasure to see the high quality livestock on show, as well as the equestrian, stands and other exhibitors.
“After attending Lauder Common Riding in the morning, I was able to talk to lots of local residents and businesses attending the show.
“Well done to everyone at Berwickshire County Show for putting on such a tremendous event and reminding us all how much we have missed them.”
