Pupils from Lilliesleaf Primary School were welcomed to the Scottish Parliament by Borders MSP, Rachael Hamilton as part of a school trip to Edinburgh.
Students from the school have been studying the topic of Democracy as well as learning about how the UK and Scottish parliaments work.
The pupils were able to see the inner workings of the Parliament building and watch MSPs from across Scotland represent their constituents in the chamber.
The group of Primary 6 and 7 pupils took part in a tour of the Holyrood Parliament and had the chance to speak to Ms Hamilton about her work in representing them as their MSP.
Questions raised by the children included concerns they have about people speeding in the village past the primary school and how they would go about getting more playparks for the local area.
Ms Hamilton said she was “delighted” to meet the local primary school in Parliament, and was impressed by the range of questions they asked about her work as an MSP.
Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton, said: “I was delighted to welcome Lilliesleaf Primary School into the Scottish Parliament.
“The questions raised by the children were excellent. We discussed issues ranging from cars speeding through the village the shortage of places for them to play outside of school, as well as my day-to-day work in Parliament.
“It was great to see how engaged the pupils were with what is going on in their Parliament. Their knowledge was impressive and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a future politician come out of this class.
“I highly recommend all schools in the Borders take advantage of the facilities the Scottish Parliament has to allow school children a worthwhile and informative half-day trip up to Edinburgh.”
